Compline
What is Compline?
Compline is the final prayer liturgy of the day, also known as Night Prayer. It is usually performed before retiring for the night. Compline dates back at least to the 6th century. It is a contemplative service and is a time to reflect and pray at the end of the day. It is a service of reflection and quietness. An Order for Compline is in included in the 1979 Book of Common Prayer.
Every Monday and Thursday evenings at 8:00 pm, a service of Compline is held via Zoom. During the COVID pandemic, we were unable to have worship services in-person. In an attempt to keep people connected, Father Allan McCaslin decided to try having Compline services Monday through Friday evenings via Zoom. It was a wonderful way to stay connected. A faithful group of 10-15 people prayed together every weeknight evening. As COVID lessened and we were able to return to in-person worship, it was decided to continue Compline just on Mondays and Thursdays. We continue to have a faithful group of parishioners that meet via Zoom. It is a very short service, usually finished by 8:15pm, which ends with some lovely music. Both the Compline service in the prayer book and the Compline service in the New Zealand prayer book are used. It is a small but dedicated group of folks and we would encourage you to join us on Monday and/or Thursday evenings.
